About Port Esbjerg Innovation Hub

Port Esbjerg Innovation Hub systematizes renewal and innovation with the core purpose of securing the future competitiveness of Port Esbjerg and its more than 200 companies. Our vision is a dynamic ecosystem for industry, research and new ventures that solve real challenges. Port Esbjerg is a key driver of energy and maritime activity in Denmark, which faces constant development in a globalized world.

We are creating a unique environment that connects the many different players at the port – from established companies in offshore energy and logistics to research institutions. Through knowledge sharing and collaboration, we create tangible value and contribute to a sustainable future for the port and businesses. Our work is rooted in the industrial ecosystem around Port Esbjerg and follows the systematic approach we call “The Esbjerg Way”, which is based on flexibility, education and transformation.

Through the Port Esbjerg Innovation Hub, we create the necessary framework for our companies to develop groundbreaking solutions.

Facilities

Port Esbjerg Innovation Hub is located in the historic Fiskepakhuset on Dokvej 3A. This building, designed by architect C.H. Clausen and built in 1901, covers 1920 m². It has been modernized to create a state-of-the-art innovation environment. Fiskepakhuset is part of the rich cultural heritage of the Port of Esbjerg and illustrates how historic buildings can be integrated into modern business environments. Here, the premises are designed as a space for collaboration, new ideas and sustainable development for companies, research institutions and the next generation.

We share facilities with the SDG House Genin (Generation Innovation). This non-profit organization builds the talent pool for future sustainable jobs through case-based learning with authentic business challenges. The facilities are still under construction, but will soon be an inspiring environment for young people and companies alike.

Activities

Port Esbjerg Innovation Hub creates a dynamic environment for the development and implementation of new solutions. Our activities include:

  • Business idea symposium: We facilitate the creation of innovative ideas and promote improvements to the port’s competitive parameters. One way we do this is by organizing hackathons where ideas are discussed. A hackathon in our context is intensive, collaborative problem solving using the “hackathon spirit”.
  • Workshops & Training: Developing skills and securing the workforce of the future. Retraining, upskilling and education will be important parameters for success in the green transition, and cross-collaboration is essential. This also includes creating interest in the port and companies among children and young people to solve future problems in an innovative and collaborative way.
  • Living Labs: We create “Living Labs” – open innovation ecosystems in current environments that function by learning throughout the project lifecycle to achieve a sustainable footprint. A Living Lab is a combination of private and public interests that allows for the development of new business segments that are also scalable. Our Living Labs can include projects around energy, electrification and recycling.

Our shared location in Fiskepakhuset creates a unique synergy.
